Arunachal Pradesh became an independent state on 20 February 1987. Until 1972, it was known as the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA). It became the Union Territory on 20 January 1972 and was renamed Arunachal Pradesh.
The First Chief Minister of The Arunachal Pradesh was Gopinath Bordoloi in the period of 26 January 1950 to 6 August 1950.
The First Governor of The Arunachal Pradesh was K.A.A Raja in the period of 15 August 1975 to 17January1979
