World Ocean Day is an international event that occurs on June 8 each year. At the Earth Summit the UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1992, the International Centre for Ocean Development (ICOD) and Ocean Institute of Canada (OIC) of Canada first put forth the idea.
