The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare formed the National Institute of Homoeopathy on December 10, 1975, as a stand-alone agency. Originally situated in Kolkata’s Amherst Street, it later moved to its current location. Homeopathic medicine and surgery (B.H.M.S.) bachelor’s degrees were first granted in 1987.
