On October 1, 2015, IDFC Bank began operations with 23 locations in Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata. By 2021, India will be home to more than 600 of its branches. 15 of the branches are located in towns with a population under 10,000. In October 2017, IDFC Bank opened its 100th location in Honnali, Karnataka. A merger between IDFC Bank and non-banking financial institution Capital First was announced in January 2018.
